What county is Ellicott City MD in?

In Howard County. I suspect you already knew that if you’re new in the area. But if you’re planning to move to Ellicott City or thinking about it, knowing the county it is in can help you find and research the local schools or things to do.

Since the 2020 census, according to Wikipedia, there are 322,407 of us here (i.e. population). So you’ll definitely meet some great people around here.

Just in case you’re confused, Ellicott City is not part of Montgomery County or Baltimore County. They are both close, one closer than other, but neither applies.

Montgomery County is around 17 to 25 miles away, depending on your starting and end points of course. Baltimore County on the other hand is literally right around the corner! Of course, it depends where in Baltimore County you are heading because it is big!

How far is Ellicott City from Baltimore?

I can see why this would be important to know. Baltimore has iconic places to visit and explore; the National Aquarium, the huge baseball stadium Oriole Park at Camden Yards, the B&O Railroad Museum, the Walters Art Museum, and of course the famous Inner Harbor.

How about we use those places mentioned as starting points to give you some distance reference?

From Ellicott City to the National Aquarium it’s around 13 miles (approximately 21 kilometers), which is about a 25 minute drive. Of course many other routes are available and we do recommend you check your GPS before leaving, to check for potential and unexpected traffic, particularly during weekdays!

From Ellicott City over to the Oriole Park at Camden Yards is approximately 12 miles (or around 19 kilometers), which equated to 20 to 25 minutes drive also.

From Ellicott City to the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore is also about 13 miles away (or 21 kilometers). This again is also about a 25 minute drive.

As you can see from the three places above, Ellicott City is extremely centric and close to the Baltimore area. Particularly close and near the best places and things to do in Baltimore!

Washington DC is not far either! We’ll definitely add some cool places you can visit down in the District soon.
